This masterclass examines the role of exercise in eating disorders (EDs) from a clinical, evidence-based perspective, analyzing its dual dimension as both a healthy behavior and a potential psychopathological symptom.
The criteria for distinguishing healthy exercise from compulsive or pathological exercise will be reviewed, highlighting the behavioral, cognitive, and physiological warning signs that point to the presence of an eating disorder.
The clinical rationale for suspending exercise in contexts of medical or psychiatric risk will also be discussed, along with the conditions required for its safe and gradual resumption.
The session will deepen the understanding of exercise as a possible core symptom in disorders such as anorexia nervosa, but also as a therapeutic tool when prescribed in a structured, supervised manner and integrated into interdisciplinary treatment.
Finally, the main differences and areas of overlap between RED-S (Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport) and EDs in athletes will be analyzed, with emphasis on their diagnostic relevance and clinical decision-making.

Objectives:
Differentiate the concepts of healthy, pathological, and compulsive exercise.
Identify red flags of eating disorders from sport-related behavior.
Apply the clinical criteria for the suspension and resumption of exercise.
Describe exercise as either a symptom of an eating disorder or as a therapeutic tool. Less...
