Core Course 1: Overview of Eating Disorders

CE Hours 3

About this course

Eating disorders can affect all people locally and globally. This introductory course will explore the history and structures that contribute to delays in accurate diagnoses and barriers to treatment—all of which can negatively impact a patient's prognosis. Through a social justice lens, faculty will review the history of eating disorders, the “Nine Truths About Eating Disorders,” differential diagnoses, the global presence of these disorders, and the diverse individuals impacted by these illnesses. Perpetuating factors to the onset and maintenance of eating disorders will be addressed, such as weight stigma, comorbid diagnoses, minority stress, risk factors, etc. Finally, a fictional case study will be introduced that attendees will follow as it develops throughout the entirety of the Core Courses. Core Courses are valid for 90 days after purchase.

  • Discuss diversity related to the diagnosis, evaluation, and treatment of eating disorders.
