Curso Basico 1: Introduccion a los Trastornos Alimentarios

About this course

Los trastornos alimentarios pueden afectar a personas de todo el mundo. Este curso introductorio explorará la historia y las estructuras que contribuyen a los retrasos en el diagnóstico preciso y a las barreras para el tratamiento, factores que pueden impactar negativamente en el pronóstico del paciente. Desde una perspectiva de justicia social, el profesorado revisará la historia de los trastornos alimentarios, las "Nueve verdades sobre los trastornos alimentarios", los diagnósticos diferenciales, la prevalencia global de estos trastornos y la diversidad de personas afectadas por estas enfermedades. Se abordarán los factores que perpetúan la aparición y el mantenimiento de los trastornos alimentarios, como el estigma relacionado con el peso, los diagnósticos comórbidos, el estrés en las minorías, los factores de riesgo, etc. Finalmente, se presentará un caso de estudio ficticio que los participantes seguirán a lo largo de todos los módulos del curso. El acceso a los módulos del curso tiene una validez de 90 días a partir de la fecha de compra.

Learning Objectives

  • Los participantes serán capaces de identificar la epidemiología, los criterios diagnósticos y la evaluación relacionada con el diagnóstico de los trastornos alimentarios.
  • Los participantes aumentarán la comprensión de la diversidad relacionada con el diagnóstico, la evaluación y el tratamiento de los trastornos alimentarios

  • Paula Edwards-Gayfield LPC, LCMHCS, CEDS-C, BC-TMH

    Paula Edwards-Gayfield, LCMHCS, LPC, CEDS-C, BC-TMH, is a Diversity & Inclusion Co-Chair and a Clinical Training Specialists at The Renfrew Center. With more than 20 years of experience treating eating disorders and co-occurring mental health concerns, she works extensively with adolescents, adults, and families and has spoken nationally on eating disorders, culture, and equity. In addition to her role at Renfrew, she maintains a private practice providing clinical supervision and serving individuals suffering with eating disorders, depression, anxiety, self-esteem and identity issues, life’s transitions, relationship issues, and trauma.

    She is the co-author of Black Women with Eating Disorders: Clinical Treatment Considerations and a contributing author to Treating Black Women with Eating Disorders: A Clinician’s Guide. A Certified Eating Disorders Specialist and Approved Consultant (CEDS-C) of iaedp™, Paula currently s serves on the Board of the National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA) and its Clinical Advisory Council, the advisory board for Eating Disorder Recovery Support (EDRS), and is a board member of Project BLACKBIRD.

  • Norman Kim, PhD

    Norman completed his B.A. at Yale and his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at UCLA, where he was the recipient of an individual National Research Service Award from the NIH. He has developed an expertise in treatment and assessment of psychiatrically complex populations with a particular focus on Eating Disorders, Trauma, and Bipolar Disorder. He is an advocate for eating disorder awareness, and has endeavored to develop a clinical approach that focuses on the exploration of meaning as a path to healing. Norman is the National Director for Program Development for Reasons Eating Disorder Center and Center for Change in UT.
