El diagnóstico médico contra el diagnóstico del TCA

About this course

Cuando se habla de trastornos de la conducta alimentaria, se podría pensar que su diagnóstico siempre es claro. Diferentes sistemas médicos, como gastroenterología, endocrinología, reumatología, psiquiatría, obstetricia y ginecología, entre muchos otros, pueden estar involucrados en los signos y síntomas que presenta el/la paciente. El motivo de esta presentación es exponer las dificultades que pueden surgir a la hora de diagnosticar los trastornos de la conducta alimentaria. Pueden surgir opiniones diferentes por parte de otros profesionales médicos, del paciente y de su familia. Todos los trastornos de la conducta alimentaria pueden confundirse con otras patologías si se atienden con profesionales que no son capaces de detectar las diferencias entre dichas patologías y un TCA, lo que puede llevar a un diagnóstico erróneo de la enfermedad. Casi el 80 % de los trastornos de la conducta alimentaria pasan desapercibidos. Durante esta presentación,
podrá determinar algunas herramientas precisas que harán que el diagnóstico sea innegable. Tras la presentación, los participantes serán capaces de comprender las dificultades que pueden encontrar los profesionales de la salud mental en el momento del diagnóstico de un trastorno de la conducta alimentaria, identificar los signos y síntomas precisos que nos inclinan más hacia un diagnóstico de TCA que hacia un diagnóstico médico, y comparar los signos y síntomas comunes de los trastornos de la conducta alimentaria que pueden parecerse a otros diagnósticos médicos. Utilizaremos un caso real que llegó a la consulta presentando diferentes signos y síntomas, todos los cuales podrían haber dado lugar a diagnósticos diferentes. Por ejemplo: Fatiga, fluctuación de peso: sistema endocrino, esto puede confundirse con problemas de tiroides y de cortisol. Ausencia de menstruación, ascitis en la región pélvica: el ginecólogo-obstetra puede confundirlo con el síndrome de ovario poliquístico, la endometriosis y la ascitis en la región pélvica, que puede estar causada por una enfermedad inflamatoria pélvica. Dolor de estómago y vómitos: Gastroenterología, esto puede confundirse con intolerancias alimentarias, gastritis, hernias, colitis. Debilidad muscular: reumatología, cualquier trastorno autoinmune como artritis, miastenia gravis, etc. Diagnóstico diferencial: anorexia Nervosa, anorexia atípica, trastorno depresivo mayor y, posteriormente, Trastorno de Conversión, que puede manifestarse con debilidad, parálisis, movimientos anormales, temblores y dificultad para tragar, todos ellos síntomas que pueden estar presentes en los trastornos de la conducta alimentaria. Nota: La versión de esta sesión que se incluye en el simposio virtual tiene una duración de 2 horas en lugar de 1.5 horas. Ambas sesiones seguirán otorgando 1.5 créditos de formación continua.

  • Describe the complexities ED professionals might encounter when making an eating disorder diagnosis.
  • Identify precise signs and symptoms that make us more drawn to a ED diagnosis vs. a medical diagnosis.
  • Describe the similarities between an ED diagnosis and several different pathologies (such as endometriosis, colitis, food intolerance, and juvenile arthritis).
