2026, 10 April, Tampa: Diagnostic Blind Spots in Eating Disorders: Lessons from Case Reports

CE Hours 1.5

About this live event

Register here. Eating disorders are serious psychiatric illnesses associated with significant medical morbidity and are frequently underrecognized in clinical practice. Delayed diagnosis contributes to increased medical complications. Delayed diagnosis increases the risk of medical complications, while co‐occurring medical conditions are often overlooked or misattributed to the eating disorder itself. This educational activity addresses gaps in clinician knowledge by reviewing the medical complexity of eating disorders and common diagnostic pitfalls. Through selected case reports, participants will examine medical complications and co‐morbid medical diagnoses that may be overlooked in patients with eating disorders.

Learning Objectives

  • Describe the importance of early identification of eating disorders through appropriate screening and identify at least two validated screening tools used in clinical practice.
  • Recognize and explain at least two potentially serious medical complications associated with eating disorders.
  • Analyze case presentations to identify co‐occurring medical conditions, including mast cell activation syndrome, postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome, Marfan syndrome, and rumination syndrome.
