2026, 21 October, iaedp Foundation Webinar: How to Start Your Own Practice: Practical Steps to Launch with Purpose and Confidence

CE Hours 1

About this live event

Starting an eating disorder practice can be one of the most rewarding—and daunting—decisions for mental health and medical professionals. This webinar is designed to demystify the process by equipping participants with practical knowledge, tools, and frameworks to navigate the early stages of establishing an independent practice. Whether exploring private practice for the first time or transitioning from an institutional setting, attendees will gain clarity on how to align clinical and business priorities to build a sustainable practice. The session introduces foundational business concepts, including practice structure, competitive positioning, and long-term planning, alongside key clinical considerations. Particular attention will be given to the importance of clearly defining and communicating your clinical approach, not only to enhance patient care but also to establish credibility and coordination within the broader eating disorder treatment system. Participants will gain a clear understanding of common mistakes, areas of risk, and strategies for success through the lens of a mission-driven, patient-centered practice.

Learning Objectives

  • Describe the key steps involved in launching an independent eating disorder (ED) practice, including planning, formation, early-stage operations, and readiness assessment.
  • Identify common challenges and risks associated with starting a solo or group ED practice and outline strategies to mitigate them.
  • Describe why it is important to articulate a clear clinical approach to eating disorder care and how it informs patient care, professional positioning, and key practice decisions.
  • Evaluate different business models and service offerings appropriate for new ED practices, considering scope of care, staffing, reimbursement, and sustainability.
  • Apply practical tools such as self-assessment frameworks, operational checklists, and planning templates to organize and execute the startup process effectively
  • Discuss how to align personal values, professional ethics, and clinical goals with the operational and financial realities of owning and managing an ED-focused practice.
