This presentation demonstrates that binge eating is not merely a behavioral symptom, but a maladaptive emotional regulation strategy rooted in unmet attachment needs. Clinicians will learn how to assess for anxious attachment, recognize its behavioral signatures in binge episodes, and integrate trauma-informed, attachment-aware interventions that target the root—not just the symptom—of binge eating.

  • Patricia McMillan

    Patricia McMillan is a clinical psychologist from Brazil, currently pursuing a Master’s in Mental Health Counseling at Belmont University and working as a Research Assistant at Vanderbilt University’s Peabody College. Her work focuses on eating disorders—particularly the relationship between binge eating and anxious attachment in adult women. Grounded in scientific inquiry, she brings an integrative perspective to understanding how individuals use binge eating to cope with emotional distress and relational wounds—and how clinicians may support meaningful, sustainable healing.
