2026, 28 October, Tucson AZ: Navigating Complex Concerns in Eating Disorder Treatment: GLP-1s and More

CE Hours 3

About this live event

Register Here! This presentation addresses the complexities of eating disorder treatment for patients who engage in aggressive weight loss strategies, particularly with GLP-1 receptor agonists. The history, pharmacology, uses, side effects, and expected outcomes of GLP-1 treatment will be discussed, as well as common physical complications of rapid weight loss. Through case studies, participants will practice talking about the elements of informed consent, the importance of regular monitoring, when medication cessation is appropriate, and the difficulties related to weight recurrence. Concerning trends, such as the distribution of GLP-1 medications through “underground pharmacies” will be addressed, along with special considerations related to pediatric patients and others at higher risk for treatment complications. This presentation will also cover the difficulty related to balancing shared decision-making, respecting patient autonomy, maintaining important boundaries, and preventing misuse. Come prepared to discuss your concerns, inform your decision making, collect important resources, and practice difficult conversations about what our patients at all body sizes face in a weight-centric culture.
